X-Rite’s Sequel Imaging Center of Excellence for Display Solutions has been developing and manufacturing color sensors for CRT, LCD and other types of luminescent displays since 1989. The core technologies of this center are its color science, microprocessor engineering and low-cost manufacturing capabilities. Focused strictly on the problem of measuring color and light from displays, Sequel’s color science expertise has created unique approaches that enable high-accuracy instrumentation. Sequel’s electrical, mechanical and computer-engineering capabilities have combined to create very low cost implementations for very high accuracy products.
Their Sequel sensors target three major market segments – desktop imaging, medical display applications and home entertainment.
Desktop Imaging The desktop monitor has become the face of the new digital economy. With this, has come a desire for accurate onscreen color, not only in the professional designer segments, but also in the prosumer segments. Sequel sensors are offered by some of the largest monitor manufacturers, including Barco, Sony Display Systems, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics and LaCie. In addition, GretagMacbeth offers its own Eye-One Display product to the market – through OEM/VAR bundles, as well as its traditional channels.
Medical Display Applications
The main application within medical is measurement and calibration of mega-pixel, grayscale displays for X-ray analysis. Sensors for these markets utilize special technology for high accuracy, large dynamic range luminance measurements.
Home Entertainment
Home entertainment is just beginning to emerge as a major application of color calibration. The advent of DLP, plasma and other technologies for display of large format images requires calibration to correct display irregularities. We have a variety of Sequel sensors under development to address this issue.
